Ride Report

Ride stats:
Miles: 28
Hills: 0
Birds: avocets, stilts, blackbirds, antelope :)
Bugs: lots
Mosquito bites: 3
Fun: off the scale

This could be an I love my bike post, but it's more an I love my TDF stationary bike. Such a fun ride last night thanks to being in shape thanks to 3 months of riding the stationary bike.

This is one of our favorite rides. We start on the East side of the airport and ride on the secret trail at the end if the runway. So fun to have the planes right over our heads. We ride through a corner of the golf course and end up on the I-80 frontage road. We rode to Saltaire and back.

It was getting late on our way back, which brought out swarms of bugs by the lake. We had to keep our heads down and mouths closed. Must remember to do this ride earlier in the day.

An excellent ride. So much fun!

What's for Dinner

Quick, easy and delicious dinner tonight. Here's what was on the menu.

Salmon- this was a recipe we used in Alaska for special occasions.
1/2 C butter
1T dry mustard
1T Worcestershire
2T Ketchup
3T Soy Sauce
1 clove garlic - crushed

Simmer 5 minutes. Pour over fish. Marinade 1 hr to overnight. I baked in tin foil in the oven. 350 for 15-20 mins.

Potatoes
Easy easy easy.
Saute sliced onions. add salt, pepper and thyme for last 5 minutes
Layer onions and sliced potatoes in crockpot.
When cooked put in serving dish and sprinkle with shredded swiss cheese.

Fruit Salad - Rick made this surprising salad. I say surprising because Rick is very anti anything so "Relief Society". But everyone had seconds (at least).
1 can pineapple
1 can mandarin oranges
banana
any other fruit you want
mini marshmellows
sour cream

Steamed Asparagus

Everyone loved it. Especially me, since it wasn't time consuming to prepare. Even picky-eater-doesn't-like-fish Isaac called the fish "OK", and anti-potato Zane didn't need any coaxing to have a serving. Oh and the kids were on Sunday dinner clean up. Major win on every level.

Rick's Graduation

Bad photo- this is a downside of having an iPhone-- I don't think I need to bring a camera.
The post-ceremony celebration consisted of delicious waffles at Bruges, showing of the Avengers (fun flick),  then sushi. An excellent night.
Look at those handsome Lyons' men!

CONGRATS RICK!

Here's what I'm talking about

Remember a couple of posts ago when I listed as one of the things I wanted was to have an interesting blog? Click here to see what I mean.

I want to write stuff like that. I sometime have blogs taking shape in my head that are more than "here's what we did this weekend", they just rarely seem to materialize on the blog. I read back on my blog for the past few years, and I think there are some interesting posts. They just don't happen much lately. I wonder if I'm also afraid to put it all out there like that. I hope not.

Sometimes as I'm blog surfing and enjoying all the fun new posts by my favorite bloggers, I'll flip to my blog hoping something fun and new will be there. Then I realize- nothing interesting will be on my blog unless I put it there. Bummer. :)

I don't seem to have the motivation that I used to for blogging, although I still enjoy it. I am in the process of prioritizing my life. I'm evaluating how I can best spend what little free time I have to bring the greatest benefits (aka most happiness). Maybe better blogs will result-- maybe not. A time and season.

Weekend Report

It was a busy weekend. My sister and her husband went out of town so we had these three guys staying with us.
Aren't they cute.

On Saturday, we went to see the RC plane fest that my brother and dad participate in. Here are some of my dad's planes.

Asher did some excellent flying. We were late and missed a lot of the events this year, but watched some of the "combat" flying. Mostly Mason just loved running around.

Also, these bloomed. Aren't they fun! Only two of the five bloomed, the the other three look like they aren't going to make it. :(
