April Fool's Day

My office loves a good April Fool's Day joke. The partners have a great sense of humor. Several years ago, we had been working a search that was incredibly difficult to fill. We finally had three candidates scheduled to interview with the client the first week in April. The partner who oversaw the search was shepherding it carefully to make sure nothing went wrong. Perfect opportunity for a prank. Three of us in the office had our significant others leave voice messages for him to pick up the morning of April 1. They all pretended to be one of the candidates, each with different reasons for dropping out of the running. It was hilarious. We all huddled outside his office door while he checked his voicemail and held in our giggles while he audibly was more and more distressed with each message. We couldn't keep the joke going too long as we didn't want him to call the client. In the end, he thought it was as funny as we did.

Well today they've got another one going and it kind of scares me. The other partner has conspired with one of our best clients. The client will call in very angry and say they just found out that the last candidate we placed in their organization has a criminal record. He's going to really play it up saying they'll never do business with us again and slam the phone. Bob is going to freak out. I don't think I want to be in the office when the call comes in. The other partner and the recruiter who worked the assignment are both loving the idea, and I guess they'll get the brunt of the anger when the phone call is over. Anyway, should be an eventful afternoon. What ever happened to plastic wrap on the toilet seat and bullion in the shower head? The holiday has evolved.

UPDATE: (04/02) The client was traveling yesterday, got stuck somewhere and couldn't make the call. He sent an email after 5:30 wondering if it was too late, which it was. Whew! :)

Oh man! That makes me want to work in an office even if it's just for April Fool's day. I love office pranks.

Ok, maybe I'm the only one, but that makes me a little nervous. I hate getting people too emotional. I know I'd feel like a fool if I freaked out over something and it turned out to be nothing, then I would be mad because I looked like a fool. Ugh...I'm nervous. Let me know how it goes.
